‘Upgrade our water network’
Angerover lossof supply
Villagers in Crianlarich are asking for answers over a faulty water supply that sees the village left high and dry.
Water mains in the village have caused problems for households for a number of years, and Crianlarich Community Council says it wants to know if there are plans for an upgrade to the system.
The village water supply has been cut off on a number of occasions, sometimes for as long as eight hours.
Issues with water mains in Station Road, have seen the village water supply cut off at least three times in the last five months.
Isla Craig, of Crianlarich Community Council, said: “It’s a problem that has been ongoing for many years now.
“I have lived here 15 years, and it’s been going on since I can remember being here.
“The water goes off three or four times a year, and it’s because of the same 100m stretch of pipe on Station Road.
“It has gone off three times since around the middle of November, including on Christmas Eve.
“It can be off for quite a few hours, that’s because of the distance that the repairs team from Scottish Water is having to travel to fix it.
“Scottish Water do respond very quickly but by the time they arrive, it’s several hours later.
“The community council has contacted Scottish Water about it and we would just like to know what is happening. Are there any plans to improve it? We just don’t know.”
Trossachs and Teith councillor, Jeremy McDonald, has also contacted Scottish Water over the issue. He said: “They have acknowledged my concerns and I hope we can push for improvements here and in Killin which also has problems due to the age of their system.
“Simply turning down the pressure to avoid problems isn’t the answer and there must be real investment into these communities as a priority.”
Scottish Water says that there is no alternative supply to the village due to the bursts occurring on the inlet main into Crianlarich.
A Scottish Water spokesman apologised and added: “This has happened on a small number of occasions in the recent past. When normal water supplies are affected by a burst, we tanker water in to restore supplies as quickly as possible.
“We will continue to do everything possible to minimise any disruption whenever a burst occurs.”
