Under 17s

-

Central’s under 17 athletes were on great form in the first outdoor championships of the summer with all experienced athletes performing well.

With the event falling in the middle of the SQA exams this age group had added pressures going into the championships.

Emma Mailer successfully defended her 300m hurdles title. She was pushed all the way by Jane Davidson of Aberdeen but held on to win with 45.67 and will look to improve her club record 44.45s later in the season.

Lewis Dow was in his first season at under 17 after winning Scottish gold and UK silver at under 15 last year and comfortably won the 1500m in a season’s best 4:16.27.

There was an excellent silver medal for Elizabeth Thompson in the 300m as she smashed her personal best with 41.22 however after taking Scottish gold at 400m indoors in March she is looking to go faster at the shorter distance later in the season.

The sprint hurdles provided further medals as Briagha Cook took a fine silver in the 80m hurdles in a time of 12.27 close to her personal best. Daniel Ferguson was also close to a PB in the 100m hurdles winning the bronze medal in 14.45 into a headwind.

In the short sprints Shona McLay added a bronze in the 200m in 26.03 and Lucy More set another personal best in the 100m at 13.2 to place seventh in her first ever championship final.
