Cumbernauld Colts ..... 7 Riverside AFC U17s ..... 4

Riverside travelled to Broadwood Stadium to play league leaders Cumbernauld Colts and acquitted themeselves well on a hot day.

The first 20 minutes were dominated by Riverside and this pressure paid off when Ross Gilvear gave them the lead.

Slack marking gave Colts the chance to equalise and minutes after Kobe Furzer’s shot came off the post, Colts made it 2-1 after another defensive error.

New signing Jake McLean, who was excellent throughout, set up Gilvear for his second then Furzer beat no less than five Colts defenders to give Riverside a deserved half-time lead.

Furzer had another couple of great chances but was unable to take either and as players wilted in the heat, Colts made it 3-3.

Top goalscorer Adam Sharp was introduced and made an immediate impact when he grabbed the fourth for Riverside but it never looked like staying at 4-3 for long though.

By this point Riverside were out on their feet with Colts looking much the sharper.

As a result the last 15 minutes belonged to the home side with a tiring Riverside defence leading to sloppy mistakes and Colts grabbed four goals in the final 10 minutes to make the score look more emphatic, though in reality Riverside were by far the better side.

Excellent for Riverside were the returning Lewis Morrow, McLean, Gilvear and Llewis Houston who was missed when he departed the field. However, the GDWM man of the match went to Furzer who at times was unplayable.
