Nusery link to Malawi
Children at Balfron Nursery are building more than just bridges with orphans in Africa.
They were delighted recently to see photos of children in the Ibuluma villages in Malawi playing with some of the Lego they donated.
The Balfron children have been learning about the differences between living in rural Stirlingshire and rural Malawi.
They built model stick houses, clay and mud houses and a brick house.
They have also been fascinated by conversations about toilet facilities in Malawi.
The children painted African animals and their next step is to look at wild animals in Scotland and do a comparison.
Some children have drawn pictures of their homes to accompany letters they have started to write to the Malawian children.
Discussions have taken place about the crops which are grown in Malawi, compared with what is grown in this country.
Using colours from some of the tulips grown in their polytunnel, the children created their own bunting. Some made African patterns and a few made African necklaces.
The children’s work will be displayed at the Drymen Show this weekend.
Photos of the nursery’s artwork will be put online at www. williamstewartfoundation.org.
The foundation is a charity which supports over 200 orphans in Mazlawi.
It will have a stall Strathblane Primary School fete on Saturday, June 2, collecting school uniform to be passed to the orphans.
