WALL HANGING LOOKS SEW GOOD IN MUSEUM

- Kaiya Marjoribanks

Sewing group the Allanwater Patchers have created a stitch in time for Dunblane.

The group meets in the town every week, often talking about how fortunate they are to live in such a beautiful and historically interesting area while they sew.

The members decided to take on a new project – depicting features such as the river walks, the Cathedral, old buildings and facilities in stitch.

The result is a unique wall hanging which now has a special place in Dunblane Museum – which itself is featured.

Coordinator Sheena Reeman said:“One of our members, Joyce Watson, mentioned it to the curator of the Dunblane Museum and the suggestion to house it there was well received.

“When we decided to embark on the project it was all systems go; deciding who was to sew what, taking photographs, choosing fabrics, designing, and doing research. We learned a lot in the process, and became more observant of what was on our own doorstep. We hope by looking at our wall hanging others too will appreciate and celebrate the beauty of Dunblane.”

The following features were created by members: Faery Bridge (Heather Bovill); Snowdrops (Gudrun Sawer); Dunblane Museum (Eileen Sinclair); Dunblane Hydro (Sheena Reeman); Post Office (Barbara Johnston); The Gold Postbox (Jenny McPherson); Holmhill (Dorothy Robertson); Dunblane Centre (Tish Smith); Dunblane Heron (Joyce Watson); War Memorial (Sheena Reeman); Bridge Mosaic (Ann Christmas); Allan Water (Catriona Dairon); Dunblane Cathedral (Fiona Kettlewood); Ecumenical Symbol (Janet McLay).
