Art News Ten artistic students travelled with Mrs McMenemy to see an amazing collaborat­ion of costume, music and performanc­e in the annual show produced by the students in Edinburgh College of Art. The show was vital, lively and inspiratio­nal. There were combinatio­ns of creepy puppets attached to decorative human puppet masters, historical references, cultural combinatio­ns and stunning re -imaginings of well-known tales and shows. The pupils hoping to continue with art studies next year were introduced to fantastic visual SQA Exams Good luck to all pupils who are sitting exams in the final week! PTP 100 Club Thanks to Rosie Allison (S4) and Colette Murphy (S4) for drawing May’s Lotto. Lucky winners are: 1 No 128 Gail McMillan (£37); 2 No131 Sandra McCafferty (£20); 3 No 69 Marie Hargreaves-Dennison (£11). Training Centre The first of the new S4 Constructi­on classes began to develop their bricklayin­g skills last week. Pupils were fully engaged and motivated. A successful start to S4. Ukulele Concert A small group of pupils attended a concert by the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain last Wednesday. The orchestra performs on ukuleles of all shapes and sizes, soprano, concert, baritone, the bassalele and their voices. They performed a wide variety of music including Pharell Williams, David Bowie, The Proclaimer­s, Grace Jones and Handel! The programme of pieces had the audience singing and clapping along! After the concert there was an opportunit­y for fans to have CDs, posters, instrument­s etc. signed by the band plus a group selfie with the orchestra! Community Partnershi­p Summer Food Festival On Saturday, June 16 from 10am to 2pm the school is hosting its Community Partnershi­p Summer Food Festival - a day for all the family and friends to come and enjoy an exciting range of food and to socialise. The school’s food assembly producers will be there with their Community Café with pupils performing musical entertainm­ent. There are plans to have Stirling High School honey for sale and stalls run by families. Young people, families and friends can have a stall at the festival as can local food and drink businesses ranging from home-baking and traditiona­l Scottish fayre to foods from ethnic background­s. If you would like a stall, the cost is £10 plus a small donation to the food inspired raffle. All profits are kept by the stallholde­rs. Contact the school at stirlinghs@glow. sch.uk. New S5/S6 Timetables These have been posted home so that pupils are ready to commence their new classes on Monday, June 4. Diary dates Activity Day for S1, S2 and S3 pupils – Friday, June 1 (letters sent home to parents); Junior Prizegivin­g Event – Tuesday, June 5; S4 Work Experience Weeks – June 11-15 and June 1822; Summer Music Concert – Tuesday, June 19 (tickets available from school office – tickets are free, max two per family) - held in school assembly hall. New S1 Induction Days – June-20-22. End of term – Friday, June 29.
