Good sports at BofA Primary

Bridge of Allan Primary School pupils enjoyed an action-packed morning of athletics at their annual sports day.

They competed in long-distance races, sprints, hurdles and other track and field events during the contest at Stirling University.

The event also included a noncompeti­tive fun festival where pupils could take part in team games.

The athletics contest featured long jump, 100m, 80m hurdles, a beanbag throwing contest, speed-bounce and a long-distance run of either 400m, 600m or 800m. Each event was followed by a medal presentati­on.

The P7 Championsh­ip ended with Hamish McKay and Sam Vannet declared joint winners of the boys’ contest while the girls’ winner was Rosie Woodward.

Hamish won gold medals for hurdles and speed bounce plus bronze for the sprint, Sam won the sprint and 800m races and was second in the hurdles race while Rosie won three golds for long distance, hurdles and sprint plus two silvers for long jump and throw. Niamh Imrie was runner-up.

Depute headteache­r Julie Russell thanked pupils from Wallace High School, Active Stirling, parent Ewan McQueen who organised the throwing contest and staff from the university for helping.

She said: “The day was a great success and thanks go to the university for their support in providing the facility and volunteers as well as the many other people who helped, including our own staff.”
