Karen Robertson has completed a memorable season at Bridge of Allan Sports Club by landing the McAllister Cup for most improved player of the year.

She delivered stand-out performances for both the Minewood ladies, who completed a best-ever second place finish in East of Scotland Ladies Division One and also the men’s thirds who won the East Division Five title.

Karen’s performances were made even more impressive by the fact she had to play through the pain barrier with a knee injury for most of the second-half of the campaign.

She said: “It was a real surprise to get the McAllister Cup because it has been such a successful season for both our men’s and ladies’ teams and there have been so many players who have had fine campaigns.

“It was also great to have the cup presented by our club president Walter McAllister, whom the trophy is named after, and the whole thing was sprung on me as a surprise and that was really nice, too.

“If anything, this award makes me more determined to come back next season and do all I can to help the ladies’ team win that Division One title.”

Probably the most remarkable part of Karen’s campaign came when she won an epic five setter for the ladies’ team then answered a call for help from the men’s thirds to travel to Gala and come through another gruelling five-setter to help the thirds maintain their charge towards Division Five glory.

Those performances helped earned Karen the nickname “Wonder Woman” and club president Walter McAllister has no doubt her accolade is richly deserved.

He said: “Karen has made huge strides this season in improving her game and her commitment to the cause has been second to none.

“The fact she has had to bite the bullet on pain through an injury for virtually the whole of the second-half of the season really has been a case of above and beyond the call of duty.”
