WE HAVE BEEN LET DOWN BY UK CASH
Westminster investment blasted
Councillor Scott Farmer, leader of Stirling Council, is “disappointed” in the degree of commitment made by the UK Government to the City Region Deal.
“I was proud to sign the Stirling and Clackmannanshire City Region Deal on behalf of Stirling Council.
“This is a major investment into our local area and will result in a huge boost for the local economy and for communities. The total investment from the Scottish Government is £50.1 million in cash, and £40.1 million in cash from the UK Government – with MOD land at Forthside valued at £5 million to be handed over to Stirling Council once decommissioned.
“I must say, as the leader of Stirling Council and as someone who has seen this process since its inception, I am very disappointed in the commitment that the UK Government has made to the area. For example, Scottish Government investment will see £2.5 million going to infrastructure in Callander, which will also benefit from a share of £2 million for a digital hub. On the other hand, the UK Government is investing nothing whatsoever into rural Stirling.
“The benefits of this investment are wide reaching, but the attempts of the UK Government and Tory politicians to spin the amount that is being cash invested by Westminster is shameful.
“They have over promised and under delivered.”
