It’s‘gnome’mean feat for Malawi project

-

Latest Boys’Brigade efforts in Dunblane to help people in Malawi are‘gnome’ mean feat.

The 25th (Dunblane) Stirling Boy’s Brigade (BB) are fundraising for their second project to help‘Classrooms for Malawi’, an initiative to alleviate poverty through education.

Efforts for their previous trip to the African country included making replica BB Lego men, car washing, whisky tasting events, and‘flamingo-ing’people’s gardens, raising over £65,000.

But for their next project the flamingos have been‘retired’in favour of a collection of garden gnomes, which are being made available for hire. Already they have been popping up at houses throughout Dunblane and also Newton Primary School.

Alexander Stewart MBE MSP, president of Stirling and District Boys’Brigade Battalion, said:“As battalion president in addition to my roles as co-convener of the Cross-Party Group on Malawi, member of the Cross-Party Group on International Development and the Culture, Tourism, Europe and External Relations Committee, I am absolutely delighted the 25th (Dunblane) Stirling BBs has launched their Project Malawi with this most fantastic initiative.

“BB Gnomes is a brilliant way to raise vital funds for Malawi as well as having fun doing it, which is what being in the Boys’Brigade is all about. All our work, however serious and highly important at times, should always be enjoyable. I wish everyone involved the very best of luck for the project’s most successful outcome yet.”

Local Conservative councillor Alastair Majury said:“This is a great initiative and shows the positive difference that youth organisations can make both locally and internationally.”
