Concert Callander Kirk presents Delta Concert Band in the kirk at 7.30pm on Thursday, June 14. This is the first in a series of four concerts over the summer presented by musicians from Canada and the USA. The band is from Vancouver on Canada’s west coast and it promises to be a rousing start to the series. Callander Chorale provides local support. A pipe band will lead everyone to the football field on Stirling Road where there will be lots of events, stalls and fun to be had. The event will then be opened by the Duke of Montrose at 12.30pm. Cappuccino Chatter On Wednesdays from 10.30-11.30am in the Church House. Street Fayre Bunting is up for the 32nd Street Fayre tomorrow (Saturday), 10am until 4pm, when there will be stalls all up the Main Street and around the Cross. All ages can join in the fancy dress parade, where the theme is Disney characters. Judging is in the school at 10.30am. The parade starts at 11am, led by the King and Queen of Kippen Ewan Milligan and Ava Scott with attendants Charis Bell and Freya Hadley-Stoke, Grant O’Donnell and Edward Boyd. There will be plenty of music and food, dog show and a new simulator ride is one of many different attraction­s. Gardens open Six village gardens will be open on Sunday, June 17. A donation of £5, to be shared by Alzheimer Scotland and Start Up Stirling, allows entry to all six between 1.30-5.30pm. Teas will be available in the Reading Room. Flower Show Schedules will soon be available for the 117th Flower Show on Sunday, August 19, in the village hall at 12.30pm. A Stirling councillor will consult there from 6.45pm. Bowling In Monday evening’s rink game points were gained by Willie Mills, Sandra Boyd, Eileen Mayhew, Donald Smith, Bill Boyd and Donald Retson. In the Forth and Endrick games last Friday, points in the matches with Buchanan Arms were shared when the home team won 19-14 and the away team lost 20-16. Balfron is tonight’s (Friday) opposition. Open Studios As part of Forth Valley Artbeat, Judy JamJar Mosaics and more will be open to the public at Davaar Cottage, up Burnside, tomorrow (Saturday) until Sunday, June 17 daily from 10am-5pm (except Wednesday when opening will be noon until 7pm). Compliment­ary coffee and home baking. Mosaic making and Shonah Escombe, glass artist, will demonstrat­e in this working studio. Street Fayre Tomorrow (Saturday) sees the Street Fayre with stalls of all kinds lining the Main Street from the Cross to the primary school. From there at 11am King Euan Milligan and Queen Ava Scott and their attendants lead the fancy dress parade down to Kingdom Court. Live music and entertainm­ent all day and much fun in the school playground. Plenty of food available in the cafes in the church and Reading Room and in the local shops and hotels. School Sports The traditiona­l football and netball competitio­ns with local schools continue through the summer term. The annual school sports will take place on the sports field on Friday, June 15, at 1.45pm with spectators most welcome. Kippen Heritage Following a year of hard work to clear vegetation and allow access, the old Kirkyard at Kippen Cross will be open for guided tours tomorrow (Saturday) during the Street Fayre. The Smiddy beside it will also be open from 11am to 3pm to view the old blacksmith workshop. Obituary Sad news came to Kippen on Tuesday of the sudden passing of Kippenite Sandra Orchard who has resided in Spain for some time now and who will be cremated there. Heartfelt sympathy is extended to her mother Bunty in Cauldhame, to her husband Bill Cartilage, brother David and her three sons and their families.
