Green Routes At the next open day at the Walled Garden, Gartmore House on Sunday, July 29 from 10.30am, Tim Stewart from Benview Nursery will lead a workshop on the bud-grafting of apple trees. This is a free workshop with root-stocks and other resources supplied and includes a buffet lunch and refreshments with delicious home-baking. Accompanied children will be welcome and can join in with the wide variety of other gardening activities. St Mary’s Scottish Episcopal Church Holy Communiion at Sunday at 8am (Anglican Book of Common Prayer) at St Anthony’s RC Church, Balfron and 11.15am at St Mary’s. Parish Church The service on Sunday will be at the usual time of 11.15am with worship being conducted by the Rev Dr Valerie Allen. The judging for the garden competition will take place on Friday, July 20 from noon onwards. It is still not too late to put your garden forward, or to nominate your neighbours garden, applications for this, along with the actual show schedules are in the village shop. The potoramas will also be judged at this time, again please put your pot out into one of the suggested areas so it isn’t missed when the gardens are being judged. Entries for both of these categories have been falling over the last few years and the committee really needs your support in order to continue with this village event.

Thornhill Players Thornhill Players and Friends are again taking part in Callander Summerfest this year. The evening’s performance starts with a jolly Victorian drama ‘Curses, Foiled Again’ and then, after a short interval, follows with a Variety Show, something for all the family to enjoy. The show will be performed at McLaren High School on Friday, July 20. The doors and a licenced bar will open at 7pm with the performance starting at 7.30pm and finishing around 10pm. Tickets will be on sale at the Summerfest box office and through the website. Norrieston Church Sunday worship will take place on Sunday at the usual time of 10am and will be conducted by the minister, Rev Ellen Larson Davidson. After the service the Traidcraft stall will be in business in the church hall and tea, coffee and biscuits will be on hand. Gardening Society This year’s schedules have now been delivered round the immediate village. There are some in the village store for anyone outwith the village who would like to enter the show in September. Please note the closing date for the garden competitions is now July 23.
