Spiritualists in tribute to long service
150 honour Lynda’s dedication
A special gathering was organised to honour a Torbrex woman’s five decades of involvement with the Stirling Spiritualist Church.
Lynda Buchan (75) was joined by more than 150 of her family and friends from the church at the Golden Lion Hotel this month.
In her 50 years of involvement she spent two decades, on and off, serving as president and still regularly takes services.
David Bruton, president of the Spiritualists’ National Union, was among the guests at the celebration.
Lynda said: “It was wonderful. Really emotional too.”
Stirling Spiritualist Church, in King Street, is affiliated to the Spiritualists’ National Union and they believe in survival of the spirit beyond physical death.
They say that, although the body dies, the spirit lives on and continues to develop.
As part of the church mediums like Lynda can take services at other churches around the UK and this is something she has been doing for years.
She told the Observer that she first became involved the church after attending with her mother.
She said: “At first I wasn’t sure about it but my mum made me go along and from there I was hooked. I’ve been involved ever since.”
Friend and fellow church member Isobel Petale paid tribute to Lynda’s efforts, saying: “She was president for many years and she welcomed my friend and I to the church.
“She is always there to welcome people in, no matter who they are. She has helped so many people.
“She has also raised so much money for good causes and Strathcarron Hospice in particular.”
Instead of presents and gifts Lynda asked people to make donations to charity and £1005 was raised for Strathcarron.
