Another route to raising money for hospice
Runners at this year’s Strathcarron 10K will tackle a brand new course.
The Stirling University cheerleading team will be on hand to raise the runners’ spirits as well as a piper to add to the atmosphere.
And the new course, designed by experienced runner Raymond Evenden, will offer a change of scene.
The race will take place at the university on October 14 and organisers hope record numbers raise funds to support local people with life-limiting conditions.
Coleena Brodie of the hospice fundraising team said:“Raymond took last year’s route and with his years of experience – and many hundreds of kilometres running races like this – identified all the niggles and issues and amended them to provide us with a clear, challenging and fun multi-terrain 10K route to suit all abilities.”
Included in the route are road, trail and cross country elements and piper Grant Harden will be at the halfway mark to motivate the runners.
Adding further motivation will be Stirling University cheerleading team, led by Melissa Borland, and younger cheerleaders led by Ashleigh Smith.
There is also a 2.5km fun run which has no limits on age or ability.
A number of Rotary clubs and the Alloa Police Scotland youth volunteers will provide marshalling support and Persimmon Homes have donated kilometre markers and arrow signs.
“We have everything in place to provide a first-class race experience for all our competitors,”said Coleena.
“Strathcarron Hospice has to raise over £12,900 every single day to continue providing the love, care and support our patients and their families deserve and events like the Strathcarron 10K play an integral part in making that happen. We had 800 runners last year and it would be wonderful to see that level of support repeated this year.”
