Thousands join our film fight

- Robert Fairnie

A petition launched by the Stirling Observer calling on Vue to review the pricing policy at their Stirling cinema has now attracted more than 5000 signatures.

Our Fair Vue campaign was launched last week demanding the cinema chain stops charging movie fans more in Stirling than anywhere else in Scotland.

We revealed earlier this month that prices for standard adult tickets are up to £7 more expensive than the chain’s cinemas in Aberdeen, Inverness, Hamilton and Livingston. Stirling MSP Bruce Crawford backed our campaign when we launched it on Wednesday and since then thousands of people, including Mid Scotland and Fife MSP Dean Lockhart, have also thrown their support behind it.

In its first 24 hours, the petition attracted the signature of more than 3000 people.

However, when contacted by the Observer, the Vue continued to blank calls for a review of their prices, simply repeating details of special offers they run.

A comparison carried out found that a standard adult ticket for a movie at the Stirling cinema cost £12.47 compared to £5.74 in Hamilton, Aberdeen, Inverness and Livingston.

Prices in Edinburgh, at the Omni Centre and Ocean Terminal, are £6.74 while in Glasgow they are £10.79.

The Vue say that they operate a “dynamic pricing policy”which enables them to vary prices from venue to venue.
