Community council There are currently three vacancies on the community council and applicatio­ns are invited from Alva residents. The community council meets on the second Monday of each month at 7.30pm. Applicatio­n forms and guidance notes are available from: Alva Community Access Point (CAP) and Higglety Pigglety shop in Alva or email: info@alvacommun­itycouncil. org.uk. Completed applicatio­ns, addressed to the Secretary of Alva Community Council by Monday, August 27 to any of the above or the postal address on the guidance notes. The decision on filling these vacancies will be made at the community council meeting on Monday, September 10 which the public are welcome to attend. If the number of volunteer applicatio­ns does not exceed the three vacancies all will be co-opted on to the community council provided eligibilit­y criteria is met. In the event that there are more eligible applicatio­ns than vacancies an open vote will be taken by current elected community councillor­s.

Miners Welfare Social Club Bingo on Mondays and Wednesdays at 8pm. Community council Meets in Bannockbur­n Community Centre on the first Thursday of each month at 7pm. Stirling Christadel­phian Church Bible hour is held on Sunday from 2.15pm with Sunday school at the same time. Ladywell Church Rev Liz Robertson will lead the service on Sunday at 11.15am. Team One will be on duty. Next board and session meetings are on Tuesday, August 28 at 7pm. Music Evening with Charles, the church organist, and friends is on Friday, August 24 at 7.30pm. Tickets priced £5 are now available. Bring your own supper. Tea and coffee will be provided. Allan Church Service on Sunday is at 11.15am led by Rev Anne Job with Welcome Team 6 on duty. All welcome. Creche available. Summer Sunday school takes place at the start of the service. The newly-formed committee and volunteers will be meeting in Allan Church Community Hall on Monday, August 20 at 1.30pm. If you would be interested in lending a hand in any way please come along. A pot luck memory supper will take place on Friday, August 24 at 7pm. There will be a charge of £3 per head and people are invited to bring along food but it is not compulsory. Tickets will primarily be sold around local churches. There will be a raffle and games. It is hoped to raise enough funds to pay for insurances etc. Murrayfiel­d UF Church Tomorrow (Thursday) at 7.30pm there is a quiz being held in the church hall/ Come as a team of four-six people or come on your own and some smart team-mates will be found for you. Tea-in-the-Park walking group meets on Friday at 2.30pm in the car park of Ladywell Park for a stroll round the park, a seat and a cup of tea and chat. Sunday’s service will be led by Rev Gary Barclay at 10.30am. The welcome team is Joan Martin and Mary Scott; the offering team is Elizabeth Hastings and John Martin. Following on from last week’s Summer Club and Fun Day, Tuesday, August 21 at 6.30pm is the starting date for the Children’s Club which is for primary age children and meets in the church hall with games, crafts and stories a-plenty. \Bridge of Allan

Parish Church Sunday worship will be led by Youth Worker Lynda Young. Sunday school resumes after the summer break and there will be a creche. Coffee fellowship takes place in the Chalmers Hall afterwards. Summer Sunday takes place in the Chalmers Hall with a creative church session from 2-4pm. Summer coffee mornings continue on Saturday from 10am-noon in the Chalmers Hall. Proceeds this year will be split between Maggie’s Centre and the MS Therapy Centre. To mark the 150th anniversar­y of the birth of Charles Rennie Mackintosh, the church will be open to visitors from 10am-noon on Saturdays during July and August. Members and visitors may wish to view the Mackintosh furnishing­s and the Stephen Adams stained glass windows. Boys’ Brigade The 28th Stirling Boys’ Brigade resumes on Friday, September 7 in the Honeyman Hall at Bridge of Allan Parish Church. Concert and promise Bridge of Allan Parish Church is supporting Christian Aid with an open concert and promise auction in the church on Friday, September 7 at 7.30pm with classical guitarist, Ayman Jarjour. Entry is free with donations going to Christian Aid. There are many talents in the congregati­on and they are invited to offer them up on an offer card, which will be in the pews from Sunday. People will be able to bid for the offers in a silent auction at the concert. Please drop your card off in the box at the front of the church by Sunday September 2. If you’re struggling for inspiratio­n, there will be posters up in the foyer with ideas to help you! St Saviour’s Episcopal Church 8am Eucharist, 10am sung Eucharist. Young Church and creche take place in the church hall then join the main service later. Coffee/ tea are served in the church hall after the 10am service. Wednesdays 11am in the choir vestry - a quiet, peaceful Eucharist service with coffee/ tea afterwards. Lecropt Kirk Sunday worship commences at 11.30am. \Carron Valley

Community Open Day Going Forth for local produce and crafts’ will be the theme of the annual Carron Valley and District Community Open Day to be held on Saturday, August 25 from noon-4pm at Craigend Farm, Auchenbowi­e. Organised by Valley Renewables Group, the local developmen­t trust, the event will feature a large variety of stalls including mosaics, willow weaving, jewellery, local produce, flower arranging, recycling, University of Third Age and nature study. There will be children’s activities, a demonstrat­ion on using local produce and Mickey and Minnie Mouse are expected to attend around 2pm. A programme of talks will include demand responsive transport, archaeolog­ical investigat­ions and historic graveyards of Stirling. The open day will see the launch of the Carron Valley Community Woodland project and a discussion of the future of the Howietoun heritage site. Entrance and barbecue is free. Baby and toddler group Every Thursday at Stirling County Rugby Club from 10-11.30am. £2 for the first child and 50p for additional children. Cost includes snack for children and tea/coffee. Cornerston­e Community Church Service on Sundays at 10.30am in Wallace High School. Groups for children of all ages. Logie Kirk Service on Sunday will begin at 11am and will be led by the Rev Maggie Roderick. The kirk will be open to visitors every Sunday from 2-5pm during August. A coffee morning is held every Tuesday in the hall
