Mackay’s injury-hit squad struggles again

Stirling Albion .............. 0 Clyde ............................. 3 Two games, two defeats and no goals scored – it’s been a miserable start to the Ladbrokes League 2 campaign for Stirling Albion.

Dave Mackay’s men were in IRN-BRU Cup action at Alloa last night (Tuesday) then head for the capital on Saturday seeking their first league win since beating Elgin City in March.

Clyde were comfortabl­e and worthy winners at Forthbank and, after two rounds of fixtures, are the only team in the division with maximum points.

A genuine title challenge is on the cards for the Bully Wee and it would be a surprise if they are not first or second come May.

Two goals from Ally Love and one from David Goodwillie earned the visitors a comprehens­ive victory at a ground where they have enjoyed plenty success down the years, although it was Stirling who won 2-1 in the most recent Forthbank encounter in February.

There were some positive signs for the Binos in the Betfred Cup – not least an impressive win at Peterhead and a good showing in defeat at Dunfermlin­e – but they look to be a team short on confidence and belief and are lacking a goal threat.

It doesn’t help that Darren Barr, Darren Smith and Kevin Moon were all sidelined through injury, as was on-loan Dundee keeper Calum Ferrie, but the current group are capable of better than this.

Cammy Binnie returned to the side and made some good saves and central defender Kyle Banner returned from a ban in place of Jason Marr. Willie Robertson was
