Last Friday the annual Gents Senior Open was held, once again generously sponsored by local company Goldcrest.

Winner on the day was Dunblane New’s Cameron Ferguson who teed off in the first group and returned an excellent gross 71. Second in the scratch section was Peter Gillespie (Callander) who scored a 74 and third was David Anderson (Falkirk Tryst) on 76.

In the handicap section the local players faired a bit better with Bridge of Allan’s Chris Whaley winning on a countback from James McKenzie both scoring net 65. Third place went to Jim Harris (Falkirk Tryst) again with a net 65. Winner of the nearest the pin at the 9th was Alec Wilson (Dunblane New).

On Saturday, gents competed in the Autumn Meeting which was the second round of the Munro Medal. Winner on the day was Brian Park who scored an excellent gross 69 (net 64) to win by one shot from Douglas Gebbie and Robert Birrell, who were second and third respective­ly with net 65s. Autumn Scramble (Sunday, September 9): This was brought forward to accommodat­e CCGU as Tulliallan GC withdrew from holding the Autumn meeting which was scheduled for September 30. This will now be held at Braehead. Well done to all for taking part in this rearranged fixture at short notice; more than 90 played in wet and windy conditions.

The Caledonian League games are completed, all friendly matches are finished so it was back to domestic competitio­ns with the Keith Adams Trophy. Scoring was good and the overall winner had to be decided on a better inward half.

Saturday saw a great turnout of teams competing in Texas Scramble format in the Greenkeepe­r’s Revenge for the Fighting CocksTroph­y. The winning team of Lee Wilson, Brendan Watt, Graham Wilson jnr and Colin Ferguson had a tremendous score of 54.3 which included three eagles.

On Monday a record equalling 44 players competed over 14 holes strokeplay for the Lee-Mac Trophy. Players aged over 55 years as of November 1 are eligble to enter. This was donated by late members Andy Lee and Past Captain Mike McCallum and has been played since 1996.

James Caldwell equalled the record score - held by Robson McKerchar - of 48 to win by three strokes from Brian Waddell. Players enjoyed a light lunch afterwards with organiser Andrew McAllister presenting the prizes.

Congratula­tions to Gary Bolton who beat Brian McVean 3&1 to win the King George V Trophy. Gary used his shots well in a closely contested matchplay final. Both players secure a seat at the Annual Prizegivin­g Dinner on Friday, November 16.

Players will compete this weekend for the King George VI Trophy in bogey format. Bridge of Allan’s lady golfers hit the fairways last week to raise £300 on a special charity night.

The annual Lady Captain’s fun competitio­n was held on a bright autumn evening with proceeds going to Start-Up Stirling - this year’s chosen charity by Lady Captain Annette Scott.

“When it comes to raising money for charity, the ladies at Bridge of Allan have it off to a tee,“ Dougie Todd defends the trophy won last year with a winning score of six up. Players must enter gross score in Column A on the card and annotate in Column B with a plus sign (+) for a win, net birdie or better; 0 for a halved hole in par and a minus sign (-) for a net bogey or worse. Stirling ladies’summer outing to the Alyth Glenisla course on Friday saw 38 competitor­s. The first nine holes was a Texas Scramble and the winning team was Di said Annette.

“We are a small section with a big heart and it made me very proud to present £300 to Start Up Stirling from our generous bunch of ladies.”

The nine hole greensomes format saw 16 experience­d and not-so-experience­d players teamed together.

The fairways echoed with laughter as the ladies Davidson, Kathleen Murray, Susan MacLennan and Jackie Cullen.

The second nine hole format was two best net scores and winners were Rose Graham, Lyndsay Boyack, Mary McCaig and Christina Hendry.

The overall winners of the Raymond McKenzie Trophy were Fran McMillan, Isobel Preston, Bernadette Paterson and Janet Box.

The ladies would like to thank Raymond McKenzie of ZOO Hair and Beauty who kindly sponsors this outing each year. enthusiast­ically swung through the nine holes with the added twist of three free throws of the ball.

Back in the club house, all enjoyed an excellent supper prepared by Helene and Jimmy. Congratula­tions to the worthy winners Isabel MacFarlane and Janice McGregor who pipped June McDonald and Grace Christie to the post by half a point.
