Thursday, September 6 Caley Marts sold 140 catlle comprising 82 bullocks and heifers including five young bulls and 58 OTM cattle. Again numbers short of requiremen­ts with all classes considerab­ly dearer on the week. Bullocks averaged 228p pkg; heifers 226p pkg; young bulls 197p pkg; beef cows 123p pkg and dairy cows 103p pkg. Heifers sold to 258p for a Limousin from JH and NT Turnbull, Meadowend, Clackmanna­n purchased by Hugh A Black and Sons, Stirling and to £1530 for a Limousin from DS and RC Taylor, Easter Ochtermuth­ill, Muthill. Bullocks to 250p on three occasions, all for Limousins, two from Easter Ochtermuth­ill and one from J and J Wylie, Knockhouse, Dunfermlin­e, all purchased by T Johnston, Butchers, Falkirk and to £1722 for a Simmental from C Smith, South Flanders, Kippen. Bulls sold to 218p for a Limousin from WI and AW Callion, Bolfornoug­ht, Stirling and to £1430 again for a Limousin from W Dick and Sons, Mains of Throsk, Stirling. With a plainer show of cows forward, beef cows averaged 123p selling to 168p for an Aberdeen Angus from Caldcoats Beef Enterprise, Malletsheu­gh and to £1280 from H Greer, Gelvan View, Kinross. Dairy cows averaged 103p selling to 130p from J Brown and Son, East Gartmillan and to £870 from the same home. Bulls sold to £1370 for a Charolais from A McKenzie, Ardgate, Gartocharn. Monday, September 10 Caley Marts had forward 396 store cattle at their annual Autumn Show and Sale of Native Bred Cattle. Judge was Mr George Sommervill­e, Aar-Dar, Terregles, Dumfries. Overall Champion went to Major Gibb, Glenisla, Blairgowri­e for a Shorthorn Bullock which sold for £1000. Reserve Champion went to M Sibbald, Cowden, Dollar for an Aberdeen Angus which sold for £1200. Hereford bullocks sold to average 202p selling to 222p from AG and ME Bateman, Langholm, Campbeltow­n and to £1200 from M Sibbald, Cowden, Dollar. Highland bullocks sold to average 159p selling to 202p from CA Prentice, West Bank, Ravenstrut­her and to £930 from the same home. Beef Shorthorn bullocks levelled out at 201p selling to 209p from J and J Gibb, Glenisla, Blairgowri­e and to £1210 from A and H Kirkpatric­k, Strathmore, Beith. Whitebred Shorthorn bullocks averaged 185p selling to 203p from S MacDonald, Union, Thornhill and to £960 from Achadunan Estate, Cairndow. Aberdeen Angus bullocks averaged 201p selling to 226p from T Young, Glencraigs, Campbeltow­n and to £1220 from M Sibbald, Cowden, Dollar. Highland heifers averaged 126p selling to 139p from Ormsary Farms, Lochgilphe­ad and to £500 from the same home. Aberdeen Angus heifers averaged 186p selling to 196p from L Elles, Balgonar, Saline and to £1200 for the Reserve Champion from M Sibbald, Cowden. Also sold 3692 store lambs, ewe lambs and feeding ewes, in conjunctio­n the Show and Sale of Blackface Wedder Lambs kindly sponsored by the Blackface Sheep Breeders Society. Again all classes followed the national average being easier on the week, with 1104 prime lambs averaging 168p (-7.3p on the week, +6p on the year). Well finished lambs selling between 170p and 180p depending on weight. Leaner and lighter types harder to cash. Top price of the day went to A Smith, Allanview for a Texel at £105. Top price per kg went to I Campbell, Meikle Seggie at 205.2p pkg for a pair of 41kg Beltex. Spring lamb prices per head: Texel £104 Allanview; Suffolk £101 Eorabus (Islay); Beltex £100 and £99 West Lundie; Continenta­l £98 Cuiltburn; Mule £84 Doune Farms. Monday, September 10 UA sold 231 sheep at their annual Lleyn Sheep Society show and sale, selling to a top of 650gns for a shearling ram from H Goldie, South Bowerhouse­s. Females sold to a top of £170 twice, first for the champion pen of gimmers from H Goldie, South Bowerhouse­s and again for a pen consigned by James K Goldie.
