City arts weekend to stretch over four days

- Alastair McNeill

A festival of music, the spoken word and art will take place in Stirling over four days later this month.

One Weekend in Stirling, now in its second year, will feature 14 free events aimed at an audience aged 18 and over from Thursday, September 20 to Sunday, September 23.

It has been organised by community arts collective based in Falkirk, The Write Angle, and is focused on historic city hostelry The Settle Inn on St Mary’s Wynd.

One Weekend in Stirling spokesman Ian Maxtone said: “It’s a genuinely exciting line-up; a mixture of young and old, seasoned performers and one of two getting their first break with people coming from across the central belt and beyond.

“The One Weekend in Falkirk event was a success and we thought if we could do that in Falkirk then why not Stirling as well.

“Last year’s One Week in Stirling was very well received.

“One weekend in Stirling is not about any one individual, rather it’s about what individuals - when they work together in a common cause - can achieve for themselves and their communities.”

Music includes Post Ironic State, Amy Lou, Cameron Roxburgh, Adele Gavin and Dylan and Ryan (formerly of Up in Smoke); the spoken word will come from Paul Case, Colin Will, Jo Grant, Ian Maxtone, Kirsty Grant, Elizabeth Rimmer and more.

And Stirling’s own art collective GOSSIP will be mixing drawing and painting with music and writing.

Ian added: “It’s all about participation. Donations are welcome if people wish to make them.

“However, people attending, enjoying and sharing the information about our events is worth as much if not more - than a few coins in a bucket at the end of the night.”
