Water works finish early
Scottish Water has completed an upgrade to its water mains network in Drymen ahead of schedule.
The utility giant has invested around £750,000 in upgrading 3.8 miles of pipework along the local water mains network to provide customers with extra resilience and security of supply.
Expected to take eight months to be completed, the work carried out by Caledonia Water Alliance on behalf of Scottish Water has been delivered in just half the time originally anticipated. CWA customer manager Gina Temple said: “The fact that this work has been completed so far in advance is testament to how well the teams from CWA and Scottish Water have worked together throughout.
“Engineers were also able to use less intrusive techniques of mains replacement which was much quicker than the traditional open cut method.”
Ruaridh MacGregor, Scottish Water’s corporate affairs regional manager, was delighted to see the project completed ahead of time and added: “Early delivery of this upgrade work is great news for the local community who have been extremely understanding and accommodating throughout.
“Our investment here means that customers can be confident in their water supply and also brings a reduced risk of bursts in the area.
“It’s great to see the work completed.”
The team is said to have worked hard to minimise disruption for the local community, business owners and visitors to the area. Drymen Community Council chair Fraser Robb said: “We have spoken to several members of the community about the quality of work and we would like to congratulate everyone who worked on the project.
“The team was very professional and responded very well to community members while they carried out the work so efficiently and within their timescale.”
He added: “We would also like to thank them for going above and beyond and using their excess tar to help improve the village square by filling in holes that were unrelated to the project work.”
