St Mary’s Scottish Episcopal Church On Sunday at 8am, Holy Communion (Anglican Book of Common Prayer) at St Anthony’s RC Church, Balfron and 11.15am Holy Communion at St Mary’s. At 3pm on Sunday, Alastair Savage and friends are in concert at St Mary’s with the Fiddle Music of Scotland. Parish Church The service on Sunday will be at the usual time of 11.15am with worship being conducted by the Rev Dr Valerie Allen. We are again holding a fundraisin­g stall in the annexe of the Forth Inn on Monday, September 24, at 10.30am, when we will be selling baking and produce. The service on Sunday September 30 will be our service for Harvest. Donations of tins for Startup Stirling will be appreciate­d. Bowling Club On September 9 the club held the Mixed Triples. After a wet night it was mostly dry for playing. Overall winners were Buchanan Arms – John McKenzie (Skip), Dorcas McKenzie and Mary Gordon. Runners-up were Braco – Nick Lewis (Skip) Cathie Lewis and Barbara Scott. Thanks go to all who came along and helped to make it an enjoyable day. Points winners were Helen, Bill, Billy and Stewart Gibson. The closing day is Sunday September 30.

SWI news The season got off to a lively start on Monday night with a superb demonstrat­ion of upholstery renovation by Gillian Munro. Gillian educated, entertaine­d and enthused members all with her knowledge, skill and insider tales-of-the-trade. She set members up very well for the year ahead. The ladies also discussed some of the changes to the constituti­on which were put forward at last Saturday’s annual conference in Perth. Balfron will be represente­d at the Federation Draft Constituti­on Meeting, seeking clarity on a couple of “sticking points”. Balfron Flower Festival and Songs of Praise last weekend was a great success and we wish to thank all those who helped to make it so, especially the community groups for the wonderful flower displays, so much thought and effort had gone into it. Thank you too for all the baking for the cream teas thoroughly enjoyed by all. The Songs of Praise was a fitting end to a weekend of Thanksgivi­ng for the restoratio­n work completed on the church. Parish Church The service on Sunday will be led by Rev Sigrid Marten at 11.15am. Coffee/tea will be available after the service. Prayer group meets in the church rooms on Tuesday, September 25, at 7pm. Lunch Club meets from noon on Thursdays. Councillor’s surgery Councillor Evelyn Tweed will be in Thornhill Primary School on Tuesday, September 25 at 7pm.

Harvest Thanksgivi­ng Service in Buchlyvie Church Sunday, September 23 at 11.15am. Gifts of fresh food, flowers and any other produce would be very welcome and these will be distribute­d locally and to the Gate. There will be a retiring collection for Farm Africa. Reverend Scott Brown will lead worship. Golf Society Buchlyvie Golf Society’s final competitio­n is on Saturday October 6 when members will play in a team format for the Andy McAlister Trophy at Aberfoyle Golf Club. This is the society’s charity day when all monies raised are donated to Cancer Research. Any member wishing to attend should add their name to the sheet in the Buchlyvie Inn or by contacting Evan McLean (tel 850351). Raffle tickets can be purchased from the Buchlyvie Inn and any donations of raffle or auction prizes would be greatly accepted.

Teapot Cafe is open for ‘business’ in the Kirk Hall library on Wednesdays, 10.30am to noon. We look forward to seeing you then and any offers of help will be much appreciate­d. The Thursday Club is a senior citizens club who meet in Callander Kirk Hall Library every second Thursday. Our next meeting is September 27 from 2-4pm. We have table games, tea and usually an entertainm­ent of sort. New members most welcome. Messy Church, a chance for families to have fun, relax, explore faith and enjoy a meal together, will be held in the kirk hall tomorrow (Saturday) from 10.30am to 12.30pm. All welcome.

Drymen Church Our Sunday service is at 11.30am, tea and coffee available before and after the service. The Sunday evening prayer meeting is at 7pm. The Route 66 bible study groups are starting again this month. Please consider joining a group, although the aim is to increase our knowledge and understand­ing of the Bible there is also time for coffee, chat and fellowship. Senior Citizens It was great to see a good turnout on Tuesday for Drymen & District Senior Citizens’ Associatio­n’s first meeting of the new season. Mary Ronald, our president, welcomed existing members, new members and visitors before handing over to “Fine Fettle” who entertaine­d for an hour with songs, music and stories. Archie Ronald gave a lovely vote of thanks to the group and then tea was served and the raffle drawn. On Saturday October 6 the club is holding its annual Rainbow Whist in Drymen Village Hall at 7.30pm. A warm welcome awaits all whist players, whether from Drymen or further afield. Entry and tea is £3 payable at the door.
