A spokesper­son added: “To en­sure these guide­lines were fol­lowed, the school post­poned the break­fast event, and the chil­dren are look­ing for­ward to fundrais­ing for a good cause at a fu­ture date, which will be com­mu­ni­cated to par­ents.”

The Chil­dren’s Ap­peal was launched in 2011 in part­ner­ship with the Hunter Foun­da­tion to help young peo­ple liv­ing in poverty in Scot­land.

The ori­gins of the square sausage re­main un­clear - but the iconic break­fast still re­mains a huge favourite in Scot­land and also with Scots liv­ing abroad.

Lo­cally, in 2014 Fal­len­inch Farm Butch­ers in Stir­ling won a top award for in­no­va­tion in meat prod­uct pro­duc­tion.

In the 2014 Scot­tish Sliced Sausage Plus Eval­u­a­tion awards, the lo­cal butch­ers took the top prize with di­a­mond for their Jalapeno Slice Sausage.
