Schools’ league tees off
The first fixture in Active Stirling’s Secondary Schools Golf League took place last Wednesday at Callander Golf Club.
Five secondary schools took part – Balfron, McLaren, Dunblane, Stirling and Wallace High Schools – entering six teams with four players in each.
The teams were then split into pairs, and each played a fourball matchplay format against a pair from another school.
Unfortunately the weather wasn’t in the favour of players, with rain showers for much of the day, but despite this the golfers played well.
Winning schools were awarded two points and a single point was awarded for a draw and at the end of the opening day, Dunblane High B and McLaren High led the table.
Paul O’Shea, Active Stirling’s Active Schools Co-ordinator, said:“It was a really enjoyable day at Callander and it was great to see so many pupils taking part in the first league meeting of the Stirling Schools Golf League.
“It’s always encouraging to see good participation in a sport that isn’t seen as a traditional or regular school sport. Well done to everyone who took part – and thanks to Callander Golf Club for their support on the day.”
There are two more league meetings scheduled, the next will be at Balfron Golf Club on Wednesday, November 7.
