Free parking as council says thanks

-

To celebrate the opening of the Kerse Road Bridge, Stirling Council and its partners will be offering free parking across the city on Sunday (October 28).

The bridge opened last Friday following a six-month closure to allow for the electrification of Stirling’s railway.

And as a gesture of thanks to residents and commuters for their patience during these essential works, the council, Go Forth Business Improvement District and the Thistles Shopping Centre, have waived car park charges for this Sunday .

Environment and housing committee convener Jim Thomson said:“The re-opening of Kerse Road Bridge last week ahead of schedule was fantastic news and a huge relief to businesses, traders and residents.

“This gesture from the council and our key city partners shows how grateful we are to everyone for their patience during this period of inconvenience.

“It’s also a statement that Stirling is back fully open for business as the Christmas rush approaches, and hopefully we will see plenty of the visitors to the city on Sunday, enjoying our fabulous facilities, superb range of shops and many restaurants and pubs.“

Jon Walton, Stirling BID director, said: “This is a thank you from all of us in the city centre to customers for their patience and understanding during these important works, which were required to electrify the railway through Stirling, and with the works finishing early, we felt it appropriate to make this gesture”
