Concert The latest in the series of concerts at St Mary’s Episcopal Church is on Sunday, November 18 at 3pm when the Voskreseni­je Choir of St Petersburg (St Petersburg Resurrecti­on Choir) visits. The vocal ensemble consists of seven to 10n profession­al vocalists and the repertoire includes Russian Sacred Music as well as folk music. The choir has recorded several CDs of their repertoire, which includes some specially composed arrangemen­ts of Burns songs by John McIntosh. St Mary’s Scottish Episcopal Church Holy Communion on Sunday at 11.15am. All welcome. Parish Church Service on Sunday will be at the usual time of 11.15am with worship being conducted by the Rev Dr Valerie Allen. Unfortunat­ely the Callander’s Got Talent event has been cancelled. Teapot Cafe is open in the kirk hall library on Wednesdays from 10.30am to noon. All welcome. Guild meets at 2pm in Callander Kirk Hall on Thursday, November 1 when the subject will be Sema’s Project, India with Pam Cairns. Meetings are open to men and women. Visitors welcome. As part of the Church of Scotland Together We Pray initiative, Saturday, November 3 is to be a National Day of Prayer. In support of this, Callander Kirk will be open from 10am-noon for anyone wishing to have a quiet time of prayer or reflection.

Church Autumn foliage, lovely flowers, fruit and vegetables decorated the Chancel for Harvest Thanksgivi­ng on Sunday. Delightful to see a bunch of grapes from the former Kippen Vine and, particular­ly, the loaf of bread, shaped as a sheaf of corn with a wee mouse, later giving a taste to everyone as they left church, and made by Mrs Lynne Robertson, the leader of the splendid service of Thanksgivi­ng. Later gifts were delivered to the elderly and housebound, with a substantia­l amount going to the Stirling foodbank. Rev Ellen Larson Davidson will lead worship in Kippen Church at 11.15am on Sunday, when all are welcome. Guild Members and friends are invited to Norrieston Guild, Thornhill on Wednesday, November 7 at 2 pm when Dr Catriona Woodley will speak on the work of The Vine Trust in the villages of the Amazon. SWI news At the October meeting in the Reading Room last week, members and friends thoroughly enjoyed Graham Smith’s illustrate­d talk on the work of Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance Service. Helen Wilson presided and paid tribute to former member Helen Montgomery, an expert needlewoma­n, who had embroidere­d the SWRI tablecloth in 1967 which still graces the meeting table. Graham judged the evening’s competitio­n, a Scenic View: 1 Margaret MacDougall, 2 Effie Fraser, 3 Dianne Louttit. The £65 gathered from the raffle was donated to the Air Ambulance charity.
