Speakers tackle major issues

-

Two leading figures from the world of economics and business will discuss the impact of weak wage growth and the importance of being resilient in the face of Brexit at Stirling University this month.

Leading economist Professor Danny Blanchflower and Chief Officer of the Business Gateway National Unit, Hugh Lightbody, will speak at the November Public Lecture Series organised by Stirling Management School.

Professor Blanchflower is a research associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research, a visiting scholar at the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston and former member of the Bank of England Monetary Policy Committee.

He is also well known for his outspoken economic commentary with the New Statesman magazine, Bloomberg News and on Twitter.

He will discuss the topic ‘Why is wage growth so weak?’ at an event on Thursday, November 8.

The Business Gateway helps thousands of people start and grow their businesses every year. And on Tuesday, November 13, Mr Lightbody will talk about the importance of being resilient in the face of issues such as Brexit and trade wars.

Both events are open to private, public and third sector organisations, as well as University staff and students, and members of the local community. They will include a Q&A session and a drinks reception with the chance to network.

Professor Blanchflower’s talk is at 6pm in Lecture Theatre W1, Cottrell Building while Mr Lightbody is in the University Court Room, Cottrell Building from 5.30pm.
