Community Café Project The school has launched a new Community Café project for 2018/19 as part of the Developing the Young Workforce initiative. Pupils in S5/6 have been given the opportunity to participate in the project and will spend four periods each week working on this with 15 working on the project during 2018/19. They were asked to think of a suitable name for the café before it launched and came up with “Chilli’s Community Cafe” in memory of the school’s former janitor William ‘Chilly’ Wood, who died in March, as it was a play on Chilly’s nickname that was food linked. His wife Deirdre and son Stewart were invited along to officially open Chilli’s Community Café last week. Molly Craig (S5), the café manager, welcomed the guests and thanked everyone for coming along and for their continued support of the café. Special thanks were given to the Steamship Sir Walter Scott at Loch Katrine who sponsored the café uniform. Molly also said at the opening: “Chilly would have been a huge supporter of the café, we’re sure he would always have been popping in for a cake and a cuppa!” The cafe runs twice a month within the school campus from 9.30-10.30am. Next café takes place on Friday, November 9. The cafe is open to all members of the community and anyone who would like to attend will be asked to book a space by phoning the school or emailing the café direct. There is a suggested donation of £1.50 per person for unlimited teas, coffees and a choice of homemade cakes. Developing the Young Workforce coordinator Shona Dunn and her team of senior pupils are now the proud owners of some McLaren chickens! Eggs from the chickens will be available to purchase for a donation at the school cafe. To help the pupils look after them, the school is looking for donations of old wellies from size two upwards. If you are able help please hand in any donations to the main reception at the school. Visit Huge thank you to Ross Murdoch for taking time out of his busy schedule to talk to S4 pupils on Monday, October 29 about his career, growth mindset and the benefits of taking part in sport while studying at school. Ross started swimming in Alexandria in West Dumbartonshire when he was six years old and is currently the British record holder for the 200m breaststroke. He stormed to stardom by winning two medals at his home Commonwealth Games in Glasgow 2014 with gold and bronze.
