Obituary The community was saddened to hear of the passing of Stewart Marshall on Thursday, October 24 after a short illness. Stewart, with his late wife Liz and two young sons, came to Kippen early in the 1980s to take over the then-busy grocer’s shop at The Cross. When available, he helped with Kippen BB and particular­ly with the Street Fayre. He eventually retired to Oakwood, where he enjoyed spending time with his grandson Mackenzie. Sympathy is extended to sons Scott and Ross, daughter-in-law Tina and to Mackenzie. The funeral will be held at Falkirk Crematoriu­m on Monday, November 5 at 1pm to which all are welcome. Bonfire The Cubs and Scouts will again be organisng the evnet on Tuesday, November 6 at 6pm in the Kippen Sports Guild Members and friends are invited to Norrieston Guild, Thornhill on Wednesday, November 7 at 2 pm when Dr Catriona Woodley will speak on the work of The Vine Trust in the villages of the Amazon. Over 60s Christmas Dinner A great village tradition reaches its 60th anniversar­y this year and it is hoped to put on an extra special afternoon of food and entertainm­ent to celebrate. The dinner is a much-appreciate­d event made possible by local businesses, generous donations from village organisati­ons and a small army volunteers on the day. There will be a Traidcraft Stall after the service. Parish Church Sunday’s service will be at 10am and led by the Rev Dr Valerie Allen. All welcome. Festive flowers Amanda Clayden, Green Pea Studio, will be giving a Christmas Floral Demonstrat­ion, with wine and savouries, in the Port Hall on Thursday, November 22 at 7pm for 7.15pm. Norrieston Church A major feature of last Sunday’s service was the dedication of a great mound of beautifull­y decorated shoe boxes to be delivered to Blythswood Care to bring some Christmas cheer to families in Eastern Europe. In the 25th year of this Christmas Appeal the aim was to fill 25 boxes and this was more than achieved. A good number of knitted poppies have also been gathered in but that is no reason to stop knitting. Plans are being formed for displaying them and more can always be added. Thank you to all who have contribute­d. On Sunday, Rev Ellen Larson Davidson will lead morning worship at the usual time of 10am. Orders for Traidcraft Christmas cards and gifts can be left in the vestibule in the church. Guild The next meeting will be on Wednesday, November 7 at 2pm in the church hall when Dr Catriona Woodley will share her experience­s of her time working as a doctor with the Vine Trust amongst villages along the Amazon. All interested parties welcome.
