Team’s power debut

-

Riverside FC Powerchair Football team made their debut in the recent MDUK Scottish Championships League at The PEAK - only two months after forming

The team was started up in August by Riverside FC in partnership with Active Stirling with the aim of providing opportunities for participants with physical disabilities to take part in this ever-growing sport.

Players use power wheelchairs in order to manoeuvre and kick oversized footballs and matches are played on a basketball court sized pitch and teams are made up of four players.

“It has been fantastic to see this programme grow from strength to strength in the last few months,”said Scott Kinross, SFA Football Development Officer with Active Stirling. “We now have seven players in the squad and they are developing really well each week at the training sessions on Monday evenings.

“They also made their debut recently at the MDUK Scottish Championship League and to see them progress to this level in the last few months is very rewarding.”

Riverside coach Ian Anderson added:“We are delighted at how the Powerchair team has started. The commitment of everyone involved in the team particularly the players has been great to witness.

“The club is committed to supporting everyone who wants to play football and the Powerchair team is a welcome addition to our pathway within our community club.”
