Eventat Dunblane Cathedral
Dunblane Cathedral Arts Guild is hosting a special concert on Sunday, November 11, to commemorate the centenary of the end of World War One. From 3pm the cathedral concert features music and poetry that reflects on the range of emotions stirred up by the war – jingoism, optimism, realisation, wistfulness and regret.
The words belong to the countries involved in the conflict with local readers expressing the poet’s thoughts or reading eyewitness accounts while the music is a mix of familiar popular songs and lesser known music of the time.
Dunblane’s Kevin Duggan (pianist and organist) accompanies and conducts voices of Dunblane Cathedral Choir, Glasgow-based cellist Sonia Cromarty and tenor Matthew McKinney.
He grew up in Dunblane and was a member of the cathedral choir from Dunblane Primary-age right through his schooldays at Dunblane High, a choral scholar who has gone on to win prestigious awards at the Royal Conservatoire.
The arts guild is thrilled to be welcoming him home to take a major part in this event, which will also have Dunblane piper Callum Wynd. No tickets are required as there will be a retiring collection.
In conjunction with the concert, Dunblane Museum is holding a one day, First World War-themed free exhibition from 11.30am-3pm.
