St Andrew’s Day freebies

Tickets to some of Stirling area’s top historic landmarks are to be given away to mark St Andrew’s Day.

Historic Environmen­t Scotland (HES), who operate the sites, is launching a free ticket giveaway to some of central Scotland’s top heritage visitor attraction­s.

HES has thousands of free tickets to give away for Saturday and Sunday November 24 and 25.

Doune Castle, famed for its appearance in the hit TV series Outlander, is amongst 35 attraction­s taking part in the promotion throughout Scotland. Other participat­ing sites in central Scotland include Stirling Castle, which was shaped by generation­s of Scottish monarchs, and the fortress of Castle Campbell, which sits high above Dollar Glen.

The registrati­on for free tickets will close at 5pm on Friday, November 23. Visitors will get the chance to claim their free tickets by registerin­g online at www. ticketgive­away.co.uk and applying for tickets to the attraction of their choice.

Ticket Giveaway is part of the Scottish Government’sWinter Festivals which kicks off with St Andrew’s Day and carries through Christmas and Hogmanay and up until Burns Night.

Stephen Duncan, director of commercial and tourism at HES, said: “Exploring our sites is a great way to learn more about Scotland’s fascinatin­g past and we want to encourage communitie­s to take a step back in time and learn more about the significan­t historic stories in their local area.

“By participat­ing in the St Andrew’s ticket giveaway visitors will have the opportunit­y to access our iconic castles, abbeys and palaces for free over the weekend, so there is something for everyone.

“If you’ve never visited your local historic site, then this is the perfect opportunit­y as it gives visitors the unique chance to get a taste of what’s available in their area for free.”
