Art S6 Art and Design students were treated to another inspirational visit from local artist Iona Leishman. Iona is generous with her time and thoughts and was positive about the projects the students have embarked upon. It is amazing to have an artist come in and discuss creative possibilities with the pupils. Iona has invited the students to visit her exhibition, currently on display in the Unicorn Cafe in Stirling Castle. Her interest in local environment and the history of Stirling is beautifully translated into exciting, colourful art works, fully resolved yet open to imagination and interpretation. S6 have decided to organise a work hop with Iona and she has agreed to plan an artistic experience for them on Wednesday, November 28. Project Runway Seven S6 pupils applied to take part in a two day fashion and textile event in Kelvin College in November. All seven applicants were successful and are now in the lucky position of participating in this educational and artistic presentation.
The Art Department is, once again, launching the school photography competition. There are some new ideas on the go. This year the senior competition is open to staff as well as pupils. The theme for the junior competition (S1-S3) was chosen by S1 pupil Liam Moreland who suggested “Bridges”. The theme for S4-6 and staff is “Capturing the Heart of St Modan’s”. When considering this theme it was decided that the judges wanted to see a glimpse of the magic or the thoughtful moments or artistic views of the community and the place. They are hoping for photographs that define the friendships, links emotions and environment we share and are looking for creative interpretation of both themes. The competition will be launched in the coming days. Closing dates and rules will be given to staff and pupils. Chaplaincy update A group of senior pupils were commissioned as Eucharist ministers by Fr Andrew. Halloween disco Fabulous costumes, great music and fun games! It was a great night and was made even more spooky by the Hallowe’en games and stalls provided by the senior Skills for Work: Retail Class. Money Matters Two separate groups of young people- one from the Autism Provision and one from the mainstream - were able to participate in money matters workshops. Each workshop was informative, interactive and shared key life skills about good financial health. The pupils involved will also use this experience as they work towards their Dynamic Youth Award. Diary dates Career Week – commences Monday, November 5; S5/6 Parents afternoon – Thursday, November 15; PTP Boys’ Night – Wednesday, November 21 6-8pm
