Easy does it as walking footballers raise cash
Around 50 walking football participants from groups around the Forth Valley joined forces last week to support Prostate Cancer UK.
Following a successful event in 2017 and coinciding with Hallowe’en, the walking footballers from groups in Stirling, Alloa, Tullibody and Stenhousemuir met up at the Stirling Sports Village to celebrate all that is good about the slower version of the national game.
Although the sport encourages over-50s to take part, on this occasion even the younger coaches were encouraged to play and demonstrate their skills while the selection of Hallowe’en outfits on display contributed to the fun element of proceedings.
The event was arranged in support of Prostate Cancer UK and afterwards a representative from the charity gave a presentation about the condition. This was followed by an entertaining question-and-answer session with well-known local exfootballer Jimmy Bone, who provided much entertainment with tales from his career.
The session finished with an auction to raise funds for the charity.
A spokesperson for the walking football group said:“Thanks to the support of Active Stirling and the efforts of everyone taking part including donations from the walking footballers, Stirling Albion, Alloa FC and Stenhousemuir FC, a considerable but as yet unquantified sum has been raised.”
