Songwriter Adam now backed by singer Heidi

- Tolbooth, Stirling

Irish folk singer Heidi Talbot will now be supporting Adam Holmes at his Tolbooth gig on Friday, November 16.

Swedish all-girl group Baskery have had to step down from the tour because of parental responsibilities. Having a baby on tour was proving difficult. Heidi, a former singer with IrishAmerican group Cherish the Ladies, has produced seven solo albums. She is married to accomplished Scottish fiddle player John McCusker. Her album In Love and Light won an Indie Acoustic award for best album in 2008 and she had been nominated for an Irish Music Award 2009 in the best female vocalist category along with multiple BBC Radio 2 Folk award nominations.

Heidi has featured as a guest on albums by Radiohead drummer Philip Selway, and the collaboration between John McCusker, Kris Drever and Roddy Woomble.

She has also sung on records by Eddi Reader, Boo Hewerdine, and Idlewild.

Adam Holmes is one of the brightest rising stars of the UK roots music scene, with influences from either side of the Atlantic mixing traditional and contemporary folk with his own brand of soul and Americana.

Adam has been twice nominated for BBC Radio2 Folk Awards and his first three albums have also been nominated for Scottish Album of the Year: 2014, 2017 and now 2018.

Picking up a borrowed guitar for the first time at the age of 15 he straight away wrote his first song, I Can’t Be Right, for a lost first love, and only a few years later it has been played at concert halls and on radios all over the world.

The latest album Midnight Milk was recorded in one room in his Edinburgh flat, but came complete with full brass section, an eighteen voice choir and a widescreen folk/ soul/electronica production, which was influenced by a 2016 collaboration he was involved in with Adrian Utley of Portishead, Dominic Aitchison of Mogwai and Martin Green of Lau.

With his band The Embers he combines the songwriting influences of artists such as John Martyn, Bon Iver, James Taylor and Townes Van Zandt with the rhythm and blues, country and folk music textures of The Band, Neil Young and Ryan Adams to play his own unique brand of Americana, with a hint of Scotland. Tickets are priced £15/£13. Call the Tolbooth on 01786 274000.
