Stirling’s New Look store looks to be safe for the moment, despite the fashion retailer looking to close almost 100 stores across the country.

In March the company announced it would shut 60 stores in a restructuring deal with creditors.

This week it said the figure had risen to 85.

But a spokesperson for New Look said yesterday: “Our Port Street store continues to trade as usual with no current plans to close.”

Despite the retailer’s falling sales, underlying operating profits improved to £22.2m, compared with a loss of £10.4m last year.

Executive chairman Alistair McGeorge said retailers continued to face “significant headwinds and uncertainties, including Brexit”.
