Trio of tries earn Endrick success

Valuable West League One win for the side

-

Strathendrick ... 17 Cumnock ............ 3

Three second half tries gave Strathendrick a muchneeded Tennent’s West League One victory over Cumnock on Saturday.

The Ayrshire side were promoted last season along with Endrick and with both sides finding it hard going at the higher level, a good result was vital for them.

Weather conditions at the start were not good and they were to deteriorate as the game progressed.

Cumnock had much more possession and territorial advantage in the first half but in the conditions they could not make the vital break against a well organised Endrick defence and at the end of the first half all they had to show was a 3-0 lead from a penalty.

The second half continued with the visitors having a greater share of the ball but still lacking a cutting edge to put the finishing touches.

The home side showed them what was required and with much less of the ball ran in three fine tries to finish with a 17-3 win that took them above their visitors in the table.

On Saturday Endrick are away to Cambuslang. The kick off is at 12.30pm.

Strathendrick 2nds bounced back from their mauling seven days previously to register a win over Cumnock 2nds in Tennent’s West Reserve League Division Two.

They fielded a strong blend of youth and experience, determined that in spite of dreadful weather conditions there would be no repeat of their previous week’s result when Greenock Wanderers ran in 108 points.

As it happened they once again notched up 24 points but kept a clean sheet against Cumnock with points coming from Rory Kerr (try and two conversions) and a try each for Tim Moore,

Bill Boyd and Duncan McEwan.

On Saturday they are away to Ardrossan Accies 2nds. The kick off is at 2.30pm.

There is no rugby for Stirling County or the club’s 2nd XV on Saturday because of the Scotland v Fiji international at Murrayfield but there will still be some action at Bridgehaugh when the 3rds will play a rearranged Tennent’s Caledonia Midlands League 2 fixture against leaders Blairgowrie tonight (Friday). Kick-off is 7.30pm.

Stirling Women will play at Hillhead/Jordanhill on Sunday in their latest Tennent’s Women’s Premier League A fixture.
