Lottery grant cheque boost

-

A Stirling support group for vulnerable families has received a lottery grant of £10,000.

Set up in 1999, Support for Families provides support services to those affected by a family member’s substance misuse.

It had been known as Stirling Family Support Service before becoming a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation in April 2018.

The charity is based in the Top of Town area in the premises known as ‘Stirling Boys Club.’

Chief officer Janice Beaton said: “The charity relies on support from volunteers and external funders and is run by a Board of Trustees who give many hours of their time freely, this award is testament to their commitment to continuing to provide much-needed support services to vulnerable children and families.

“Thanks to the National Lottery, Support For Families has an opportunity to continue developing support services that make a huge difference to many individuals and families.”

A year-long programme of family activities is being developed to provide support including developing practical life skills, building new friendships and support networks in the wider community.

Janice explained:“The programme will target kinship children, their carer as well as other children affected by relatives’substance misuse.

“Families will have lots of fun days as well as visits to educational places such as Glasgow Science Centre.

“I am delighted we have received this National Lottery award and extremely impressed with everyone’s input in making this happen.”

The project will start in December. For info, phone 01786 437388.
