BB’s Malawi fund gets boost from firm

-

Sixteen Boys’Brigade members from Dunblane heading to Malawi next summer got a sponsorship boost.

The boys - all in 25th Stirling company - will head to the African country to help renovate, repair and repaint classrooms in primary schools.

And their fundraising has received a boost from Erskine Eyecare in the cathedral city who donated team t-shirts for the boys to wear at their fundraisers.

The young men and their parents have held several fundraising events - as well as their own sponsored efforts such as swimming across Loch Lomond, walking around Arran, cycling from Edinburgh to Glasgow and running half-marathons! The boys were delighted to receive the new kit - which will also be worn in Malawi while working - from the local business.

Niall Erskine of Erskine Eyecare handed over the shirts. He said:“As a local business, we are inspired to see the vision these young men and their BB leaders have to help alleviate poverty through the power of education.”

BB Project Malawi co-ordinator Colin Anderson added:“As part of our fundraising, we asked the boys to go out and speak directly to local businesses about how they could support the project and we’ve been pleased with the response.”

In 2016, BB Project Malawi provided for the renovation and repair of a total of 18 primary school classrooms in Likhubula, Malawi.

In 2019, the BB team hopes to at least replicate this and provide safe, comfortable classrooms conducive to learning for hundreds more children in one of the world’s most financially poor countries. They are aiming to raise around £70,000 by next July.
