Fuel and coffee stop approved for Raploch

Go ahead for plan

Proposals for a brand new service station on the outskirts of Raploch at Kildean have been approved by Stirling Council’s planning panel.

Subject to a number of conditions, including a developer contribution towards transport improvements, the application for a petrol station with retail kiosk and a coffee shop with drivethrough facilities was agreed last week.

The proposed development by Euro Garages Ltd will be at the southern end of Kildean Business Park, next to Junction 10 of the M9, near Highland Gate pub and restaurant.

The company operate more than 180 UK filling station sites and also have a franchise to provide coffee shops on some.

The petrol station will provide services to both locals and commuters on a 24 hour basis and the coffee shop will have set opening hours.

Two objections were submitted saying there are no amenities for new residents at Kildean, with the proposal targeted at passing motorists.

The impact on roads, air quality and noise were also cited.

Panel convenor Councillor Alasdair MacPherson said: “After much consideration of traffic and environmental factors, we believe these services would be an excellent development for Stirling.”

Trossachs and Teith councillor Martin Earl said: “This side of Stirling really needed an easily accessible service station. This will make a lot of people’s journeys quicker and I would not be surprised to see a measurable reduction of traffic at other locations as people no longer need to travel further to fill up.

“Of course that will also depend on the fuel price being kept competitive.”
