Jamie overwhelmed by fundraisers’ generosity

-

A series of fundraising events which were arranged to help a young man from Braehead who lost his mum to cancer earlier this year have brought in more than £4300.

Lee Milligan (45) tragically died back in June.

A fundraising page was set up to help her only son Jamie (20) to get back on his feet after he was set to lose his home and was not entitled to benefits.

Maureen McGregor’s daughter Lynne Allan was friends with Lee and Maureen - a line dancing teacher from Cowie - who staged events at the Civil Defence Club in St Ninians and at Doune Castle Bowling Club.

The sum raised at the fundraisers reached £4325 and Maureen told the Observer:“Jamie is overwhelmed by the generosity and I would like to thank everyone who came along to the two events.”

In 2014, Lee suffered a brain aneurysm and, two years later, was diagnosed with stage four bowel cancer which spread to her brain.

She later began receiving palliative care at Strathcarron Hospice but passed away at the facility on June 16 this year,

It was the second tragedy for Jamie who lost father Paul in 2009 when he was just 11.

Jamie’s uncleTony Brewerton created a Go Fund Me page with the aim of raising £5000 which would go towards the cost of the funeral. The effort raised almost £6000.
