Powerchair win

-

Riverside FC Powerchair Team had their first win in the National Powerchair League on Sunday at The PEAK.

The team, which was only formed three months ago, play in the Scottish Championship and on Sunday they faced three fixtures in the second round of matches.

In Powerchair football, players use power wheelchairs in order to manoeuvre and kick oversized footballs with matches played on a basketball court-sized pitch. Teams are made up of four players and last 15 minutes each way.

In their first match, Riverside lost 5-0 to the experienced Tayside Dynamos and they were unforunate to lose Lizzie Jackson who played despite feeling poorly. But when she had a bad bump with an opposition powerchair she had to sit out the rest of the day, which was a big loss to the team.

In the second match, Riverside lost 1-0 to Clyde Caledonia in a struggle where they put up a great show and felt they could have won.

In match three, everyone played to the top of their ability and despite going 1-0 down to South Ayrshire Tigers they came back to win 2-1 with goals from brothers Paul and Scott McIntyre for their first-ever win in a national competitive fixture.

Both McIntyre brothers vied for player of the tournament but this time the award goes to Paul although Scott can feel hard done by.
