Food charity given a van-tastic contribution

- Kaiya Marjoribanks

Food Train Stirling have received a special birthday gift from Morrisons supermarket to help set them on the right road for years to come.

The charity, which works with local volunteers to provide a vital weekly grocery delivery service and a neighbourhood meal sharing project, celebrates its seventh anniversary this week.

Almost seven years to the day since partnering with Morrisons and making those original deliveries to their first few customers, the charity’s regional manager Stuart Miller and John Cross, a volunteer with Food Train since it was founded, were overjoyed to receive a cheque in store for £7,000 towards the purchase of a new delivery vehicle.

Stuart said:“This very generous donation really couldn’t have come at a better time. As a very established service throughout Stirling we only keep getting busier and we’re continuously making more and more deliveries week on week.

“Our current fleet of vans are very quickly reaching capacity so adding a fourth van will make a huge difference, and is in fact essential for helping us manage this growth in uptake.

“The fact this donation coincides with our seventh birthday is just wonderful. What a brilliant way of marking seven successful years of working together, and seven successful years of supporting older adults to eat well, live well and to live independently in their own homes.”

Stuart thanked Morrisons, adding:“We appreciate their support week in week out in store and we appreciate this kind donation. It is great to work with people who share our vision about how older people should be supported and treated with dignity and respect. I’m sure I speak for both of us when I say that we will look forward to many more years ahead of working together.”

Older adults struggling to access food and groceries, or who would enjoy meeting a friendly neighbour over a freshly prepared meal can contact Food Train Stirling on 01786 450536 or email stirling@thefoodtrain. co.uk.
