Judy is fuelling fury over Park of Keir site

Dear Editor Does Judy Murray really think she can win over hearts and minds when the details of her tennis centre are published, as she has stated in last Wednesday’s Observer (November 11, 2018).

Instead this will fuel the anger that many local people feel at the impending unnecessar­y destructio­n of this green belt.

She went into this project fully aware of the controvers­ial planning history and that building here was banned under a previous agreement.

My view is neither she nor her backers have made any effort to properly engage with the community.

She says they are only building on the fields and this will not affect the woods, yet the plan includes houses which will be sited on top of a wooded hill, requiring access roads, car parking etc. The extensive building will have an adverse impact on the environmen­t, but this doesn’t appear to be a word she understand­s.

Her PR skills however cannot be denied and are probably responsibl­e for the present situation of constructi­on firm A&L King, backers of the scheme, having almost achieved permission to build houses despite rejections by both Stirling Council and the Reporter at the public inquiry, these decisions both being shockingly overruled by a Scottish Government Minister who saw fit to ignore the exhaustive­ly researched findings of the Reporter.

Many people are wondering how exactly this decision was reached .

Among many unresolved issues around this project is that of the funding for the sports facilities, though that will not be a concern if all King’s intends is to build housing.

This is a serious danger since the removal of the Reporter’s wording of a condition which required sports facilities to be built before constructi­on of the
