MP impressed by youngsters’ knowledge
MP for Stirling Stephen Kerr met with Dunblane Boys’Brigade and 1st Dunblane Girls’Brigade last Friday.
Mr Kerr spoke about the the inner workings of the UK Parliament and the day-to-day work of an MP.
He also witnessed a model-making contest in which the kids tried to recreate Westminster Palace and Big Ben out of biscuits.
Boys and girls also had the opportunity to quiz Mr Kerr about the big issues of the day, and participated in mock debates.
Mr Kerr said:“I am very impressed with the knowledge and interest shown in politics and our democracy by the young people here. Most impressive of all was how accurate the recreation of the House of Commons during a debate was.
“It is so important that young people take an active part in our democracy and the enthusiasm on display was really encouraging to witness.”
Boys’Brigade captain Paul Christmas added:“Both Stephen and I were impressed with their awareness of the issues of today and I am sure he has taken a number of points away with him.”
