Pupils from Bannockburn High School have been successful in a Royal Horticultural Society’s annual garden design contest.

At an awards ceremony in Edinburgh this week, Bannockburn and Duncanrig Secondary School in East Kilbride were crowned joint-winners of the 16-school competition.

The‘Green Plan It’challenge saw 17 teams compete alongside industry mentors to design a new school or community garden.

More than 100 pupils, aged 12-14, worked with garden designers and other industry professionals to draw up 3D designs for a green space in their community.

Bannockburn’s design for their school involved space for fresh fruit and vegetables, which would be used for school meals.

Liz Stewart, RHS development manager, Scotland added:“I’m always amazed at the creative and detailed designs dreamed up by pupils after just ten weeks, with many opting to tackle some of today’s greatest challenges, from food sustainability to wildlife conservation and mental wellbeing.”
