Woman in court on assault charges
Accused set for February trial
A Stirling woman this week denied striking another woman on the face with a shard of broken mirror.
Carol Farquharson, nee Quinn, of Middlemuir Road, is facing charges of having assaulted two women in Stirling’s Harvey Wynd on December 8 last year.
The 31-year old is alleged to have attacked Victoria Reynolds by attempting to punch her on the head – and to have assaulted Nicole Thomson with a piece of broken mirror to her injury.
Farquharson is accused of seizing Ms Thomson by the body before struggling with her and striking her on the face with a piece of broken mirror.
When Farquharson appeared for trial at Stirling Sheriff Court on Monday she denied the two assault charges.
The fiscal depute told the court that Ms Thomson had been cited as a witness and the warrant had been executed.
Ms Thomson however had since moved to Kirkcaldy and Ms Russell said she was not sure why she was not at court.
Sheriff James MacDonald pointed out that the Crown had taken steps to cite the witness and could not be faulted.
The fiscal depute said she was seeking an adjournment and would ask police to make inquries with Ms Thomson at her new location.
Farquharson’s agent Ken Dalling told Sheriff MacDonald that the matter was one for the sheriff’s discretion.
Sheriff MacDonald pointed out that the charge involving Ms Thomson was serious one and the case had a “fairly short procedural history.”
He postponed the summary trial until February 4 and set an intermediate diet of January 22.
Farquharson was excused attendance for the intermediate diet. Her bail was continued meantime.
