24 new homes set for Cornton

Phase two of social housing project

-

More than 80 people look set to get new homes in a housing development being proposed for Cornton.

ARM Architects have submitted an application to build 24 twostorey houses and cottage flats, with landscaping, at land bounded by Ledi View, Montgomery Way, Adamson Place and Johnston Avenue.

The project will comprise socially rented housing and is being developed on behalf of Forth Housing Association.

There is expected to be a mix of house types.

These include: eight one-bed/twoperson cottage flats; four two-bed/fourperson cottage flats; eight two-bed/fourperson terraces houses; two three-bed/ six-person semi-detached houses; one two-bed/four-person wheelchair user cottage flat with carport; and one twobed/four-person cottage flat (above the wheelchair user unit).

In documents submitted to Stirling Council planners, the council’s housing strategy and development officer Niall Patterson said: “The Local Development Plan requires compliance with the Development Framework for Cornton.

“This site is phase two of Forth Housing Association’s redevelopment of the Johnston Avenue/Adamson Place area.

“They proposed 24 houses to commence on site in 2019/20. These will be for social rent.

“On September 15, 2016 the council’s environment and housing committee agreed to approve the transfer of this land to Forth Housing Association for the purpose of the proposed development. Forth Housing Association has met with both communities to discuss the proposals for the site and they are supportive.

“Grant funding for the development has been included in the council’s Strategic Housing Investment Plan approved by the environment and housing committee on November 15 2018 and is scheduled for a site start in 2019/20.

“The housing mix has been discussed and agreed with the housing service. There will be ongoing discussion between the service and the applicant.”

The first phase of the Forth Housing development involved 23 homes, including the association’s 800th home built for rent.

In Forth’s 30th year, the new homes currently already being completed in the Cornton area saw the association pass the milestone and Housing Minister Kevin Stewart paid a visit to the site to mark the occasion earlier this year.

The development is funded by a grant of £1.53million from the Scottish Government and £1m from Forth.
