Charities gear up for Christmas

Caring community thanked for generosity

-

has seen a strong uptake. Instead of receiving a daily gift, donors stock up on staple items, such as tinned food and kitchen utensils, and donate them to the charity.

As the items are not Christmas related, it allows them to the charity to remain sustainable into the early part of the new year.

The charity will also be providing toys, suitable for children of all ages, to those who need them.

On December 28, there will be a festive meal for the charity at the Cowane Centre.

Ian Morris from Start Up Stirling said: “The people of Stirling have been incredibly generous. We’re all about the local community, and giving back to the community.

“I want to give a massive thanks to everybody who has donated or helped us so far. We wouldn’t survive without the generosity of local people.”

Start Up Stirling are always seeking donations, which can be monetary at www.startupstirling.org,uk or foodbank donations which can be delivered to their Whitehouse Road depot.

The Salvation Army are also busy preparing for their annual Christmas meal on December 25 – an opportunity for those who are less fortunate to enjoy a full Christmas dinner.

In a first for the group, there will also be a Christmas meal for the elderly and their carers on Thursday, December 18.

William McMurray, Commanding Officer at the Salvation Army, thanked Stirling residents for their support: “We can’t fault the community. We get lots of support, especially at Christmas, and part of that is because as an organisation we are non-judgmental.”
