Observer man’s best snaps of 2018
It’s been another full on year here at the Stirling Observer with our reporters and photographer, John McIntyre, covering a wide range of stories.
Award-winning snapper John has selected a few of his favourite images captured during the last 12 months.
Among them is an image of an exhausted runner reaching the finishing line at the Stirling Marathon back in April. Shattered Irish runner, Colm Dunne, put in a lung– bursting effort, only to be helped across the finish line.
John also selected an image of excited youngsters sledging at King’s Park in the Stirling sunshine following snow.
Back in March, John snapped images of an Alva couple who defied the Beast from East snowstorm and pressed ahead with their wedding plans –tying the knot at Stirling Castle.
Cameron Watt and Angela Beardsley were due to marry on Saturday at Rowardennan Lodge Youth Hostel, but the heavy snowfall made access to the hostel impossible and it looked as if the couple’s big day would have to be cancelled. However, thanks to family and friends and the sterling work of Balfron registrar Lynn Phillips and her husband Robert, Cameron and Angela were able to marry on the snow–covered Castle Esplanade in freezing temperatures.
John is a well known face at Stirling’s schools, attending events every single week. One of his favourite images was that of a young girl having fun at the Fallin Primary sports day.
The final image that John selected was taken from Stirling’s first ever Comic Con event, staged at the Albert Halls in August. Comic book fans donned their finest outfits to recreate some of their favourite characters. Lukasz Zujwoda came along as Iron Man [Mark II].
